With Gingerbread & Punch – Düsseldorf’s Winter Wonderland

Gruppenführung

Detailed description

Delicious treats, a festive atmosphere and sparkling lights. At this time of year, Düsseldorf’s Old Town fully embraces the Christmas spirit. The scent of glühwein coupled with a hint of nostalgia – but what lies behind all the beloved Christmas traditions that are still very much alive in Düsseldorf?

On this gentle stroll, we explore the stories that are intrinsically linked with the festive season. But we won’t just be sticking to Düsseldorf’s Altstadt (Old Town) with its historical architecture. The Königsallee’s Dome of Light with its 3,500 lights also presents an enchanting scene.

How did the Christkind acquire the role of the traditional Christmas gift-bringer in Germany? When did the tradition of Christmas markets start in Düsseldorf? And what is the link between Joseph Beuys and angels? Our tour guide will regale you with facts and legends about Christmas and the festive season, from the production of pfefferkuchen (gingerbread) to the cultural history of the Christmas tree.

We end the guided tour with a warming glühwein or hot chocolate and a delicious baked treat.
