A musical journey to the far north – that is precisely what this evening promises, with a programme devoted entirely to Grieg and featuring the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
To present these musical greetings from their homeland, the orchestra members have joined forces with the acclaimed young pianist Alexander Malofeev and the Hardanger fiddle player Ragnhild Hemsing. It is not only Malofeev who demonstrates just how colourful and diverse Norwegian culture is in Grieg’s brilliant piano concerto. Nordic mythology, with its trolls, fairies and whimsical creatures, also makes an appearance in the concert hall this evening: in the story of Peer Gynt, based on the poem by the Norwegian Henrik Ibsen. Set to music by the Nordic master of Romanticism and brought to life by Hemsing and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, one can almost hear the magical creatures, both great and small, walking across the stage.
