Under the title ‘Chinese Hand Embroidery – Tradition Meets Modernity’, SHEME presents a selection of handcrafted embroidery pieces and offers an insight into the diversity of traditional Chinese embroidery culture. On display are exquisite pieces featuring motifs and techniques from various ethnic groups and regions of China, including traditional hand-embroidery and elements based on time-honoured techniques of intangible cultural heritage.
A particular focus of the exhibition is the fusion of traditional Chinese craftsmanship and contemporary fashion. SHEME demonstrates how centuries-old embroidery techniques, cultural symbols and traditional textile design are integrated into and reinterpreted in modern shoe designs.
