Michiaki Ueno, who was awarded 1st prize at the 2021 International Music Competition in Geneva, received the 2024 Beethoven Ring Award after his performance at this year's Beethovenfest Bonn.
The cellist completed his studies at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Japan, at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf with Pieter Wispelwey and in Brussels with Gary Hoffman and Jeroen Reuling. In addition to winning 1st prize at the Concours de Genève 2021, Michiaki Ueno also won 1st prizes at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians (2009) and the Johannes Brahms Competition (2014) and was awarded 2nd prize at the Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition (2018). In addition to previous concerts with Martha Argerich and Mischa Maisky as well as at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Berlin Philharmonie, St Thomas Church and Gewandhaus Leipzig, St Michael's Church Hamburg, Gasteig in Munich, Mosel Music Festival and Beethovenfest Bonn, Michiaki Ueno will be performing with several orchestras in Asia such as the NHK Symphony Orchestra under Tugan Sokhiev and in Europe with the Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra de la Suisse Romande under Jonathan Nott from 2025.
In 2025, the French luxury label LaDolceVolta will release his second CD exclusively with contemporary Japanese compositions following his outstanding Bach recordings. (Source: Tonhalle Düsseldorf)
