Dvořák’s Ninth is a symphony of homesickness and open horizons: music that looks back at home from afar and draws its strength precisely from that.
In this concert, Bartók and Dvořák are brought very close together – as champions of folk music within art music and as composers who transform the sounds of their homeland into great art. With Lehár’s first serious operetta, we accompany Adam Fischer back to the early years of his career. And Igor Levit, whose journey from student to global star has been enthusiastically followed by the Tonhalle, fulfils a long-held wish with this evening’s performance.
