Which museum visits you can look forward to

Due to the pandemic, many art fans have had to forego visits to exhibitions in recent months. Looking ahead, however, we can look forward to many exciting encounters with mostly contemporary artistic positions. We have put together six exhibitions worth visiting in Düsseldorf for 2021. Please note the current Corona requirements such as making appointments!

Heinz Mack

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, the Kunstpalast is dedicating an exhibition to the sculptor and painter Heinz Mack (*1931), focusing on the first three decades of his work. The paintings, sculptures and light-kinetic installations, as well as the photographs, films and stage sets, reflect Mack's revolutionary spirit, with which he opened up new spaces for thinking and working beyond academic guidelines.

Cosmopolitan exercises with Joseph Beuys

As a draughtsman, sculptor, teacher, politician, activist, action and installation artist, Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) fundamentally changed the art of the 20th century. On his 100th birthday, the Kunstsammlung invites you to rediscover, appreciate and critically question his complex work and international influence.

Christoph Schlingensief. Kaprow City

At K20, you can view Christoph Schlingensief's (1960-2010) multimedia installation "Kaprow City", which was originally conceived as a walk-in stage set for the Volksbühne in Berlin. It is one of the few artistic works by the filmmaker, theater and opera director, talk show host and political action artist that has been preserved in its entirety.

Art Düsseldorf

You don't necessarily have to be an art collector to find Art Düsseldorf interesting. At the fair in the Alte Schmiedehalle at Areal Böhler, contemporary art and the latest trends on the art market are waiting to be discovered by you. Augmented Reality Biennale 2021 in Düsseldorf

Do you want to be one of the pioneers? At the end of August, the world's first Augmented Reality Biennale will take place in the form of a sculpture park in the Ehrenhof. View the digital artworks with your smartphone or AR glasses and interact with them in real time.

Captivate. Fashion photography of the 90s - curated by Claudia Schiffer

What was it actually like when Claudia Schiffer jetted around the world as a supermodel in the 1990s, met numerous famous photographers and ended up on hundreds of covers? In her first curated exhibition, the long-time muse of Karl Lagerfeld, who was discovered in the Düsseldorf club Checker's, uses photos and personal memorabilia to show what shaped the fashion world and cultural landscape in this decade.
