If you would like to come face to face with the city's historical greats, we recommend a visit to the City Museum in Palais Spee.
Here you will find a selection of impressive portraits of the rulers who had a decisive influence on Düsseldorf's history. These include the portrait of Duke Wilhelm the Rich painted on oak wood from the late 16th century and that of Elector Jan Wellem in opulent decorative armor from the early 18th century. However, these are just two of the highlights of the city and regional history archive in Düsseldorf's Carlstadt district. In fact, the spectrum ranges from Stone Age finds to paintings from the 21st century.
