Six places to cool off in and around Düsseldorf

We reveal to you our six cool insider tips

When the sun is at its full strength and the nights are tropically warm, city dwellers in particular start to sweat. But where can you cool off if you don't have a pool to call your own? Our six tips for cool moments:

Wehrhahn line

Only a few years old, the "Wehrhahn Line" is known for its artfully designed subway stations. Each of the six underground stations has an individual character, featuring painterly, sculptural, interactive, sonic or geometric positions. There's art here for free - and shelter from the sun and heat. If you want to learn more about the subway stations and their artistic design, you should definitely book a guided tour: Wehrhahn Line Guided Tour.

KIT

A spectacular location for an unusual idea. The Museum KIT, short for Kunst im Tunnel (Art in the Tunnel), is located under Düsseldorf's Rhine promenade - in a space that lies between the tunnel tubes for car traffic. Down below, young contemporary art, or more precisely sculpture, painting, photography, video and installation art, is shown between cool concrete walls. By the way: With the Art:walk48 ticket you get free admission to KIT and five other museums!

Water Ski Langenfeld

It is certainly no exaggeration to call the lake in Langenfeld a water sports paradise. Four large and two small lanes are ready for you to be pulled across the water on skis or wakeboards. A standing wave up to 1.60 meters high awaits lakesurfers. You'll forget that you can also swim, walk or barbecue here.

Time tunnel Wülfrath

The Zeittunnel Wülfrath is an old, 160-meter-long mining tunnel of the Bochumer Bruch, a disused limestone quarry. It now houses a museum of earth history that presents each age, such as Jurassic, Cretaceous or Carboniferous, with its characteristic features. Don't forget a jacket, it can get fresh in the tunnel even in summer!

Outdoor pool Mettmann

Clear water, white beaches and lots of old trees - the natural outdoor pool in Mettmann bears its name with good reason. Neither chlorine nor chemicals are used; instead, modern and ecological standards are applied in the lake-like pool. The spacious sunbathing lawn allows a reasonable distance to the neighbors. Beach chairs and sun loungers are available for rent.

Indoor ski slope in Neuss

Why not hit the ski slopes in summer? In Alpenpark Neuss, temperatures of minus three degrees prevail all year round. The 100-meter-long beginner's slope and a main slope three times as long offer the best conditions with their powder snow. In addition, tobogganing and curling are possible indoors.
