Six romantic places

We show you Düsseldorf from its picturesque side

February 14 is Valentine's Day - time for a little romance. We've put together six ideas for emotional Düsseldorf moments that will touch your heart even in the lockdown.

Strolling along the road of revolution and romance

Did you already know? Düsseldorf has a "Street of Romanticism and Revolution. This refers to Bilker Strasse, lined with city palaces and town houses, where the history of music meets the history of literature. Both Heine and the Schumanns left their mark here.

Walking hand in hand through nature

You feel like a romantic walk? Then let's go to the south of Düsseldorf! The park adjacent to Benrath Palace, a testimony to top-class garden art, offers heartwarming views and great photo motifs with its mirrored pond, the numerous enchanted paths and the pretty herb garden.

Meet Caspar David Friedrich and the Düsseldorf Romantics

If anyone can do Romanticism, it is Caspar David Friedrich. The painter is considered the most famous representative of this epoch. Currently, the Kunstpalast is showing his works in dialogue with works of the Düsseldorf School of Painting. Due to lockdown, a visit to the museum is not possible, but you can get to know some of the exhibits via audio guide.

Enjoy evening atmosphere on the Rhine

While the sun disappears behind the Art Nouveau facades of Oberkassel and the buildings on the Rhine promenade shine in soft light, the atmosphere on Burgplatz is particularly atmospheric. This is also the opinion of the two columned saints, who also enjoy the view of the temporarily erected Ferris wheel.

Looking ahead

How about a picnic with a fantastic view of the city? Wrapped up warm, with hot drinks and blankets in your luggage, you can enjoy the "Beautiful View" of Düsseldorf in the Grafenberg Forest.

Feel like old times

Düsseldorf is considered a modern city, but in the older parts of the city there are picturesque buildings and squares that invite you to dream. Like Gerricusplatz, which forms the historic center of Gerresheim with the collegiate church - today a basilica - St. Margareta, consecrated in 1236, and the well-preserved half-timbered houses.
