Six great Christmas gifts with local color

There's music in it - and more

Would you like to give away a very authentic piece of Düsseldorf for Christmas? Perhaps a masterpiece of local literature? A local but exotic gourmet product or original Düsseldorf punk music with cult character? Our six ideas cater to a wide range of tastes, but all exude plenty of local color.

Wall calendar from rikiki

rikiki is the top address for graphic design fetishists and detail-obsessed interior design fans. The corner store on Hermannplatz in the Flingern district is overflowing with prints, posters, pretty stationery and hand-picked home accessories - but rikiki's own screen prints are particularly beautiful. Like the straightforwardly designed calendar for 2022, on which you have the complete year in view, with plenty of space for all appointments, vacations, appointments, birthdays. The DIN A1 calendar is produced as a three-color screen print: black as the base color for the weekdays, neon coral for the weekends and pure gold as the accent color. The perfect gift for the organized - and those who harbor the good intention to become so.

Chocolate with Spirit of Good and Glad

There's Christmas beer and there's Christmas chocolate - but both in one? They swear by it at Gut und Gerne. At the sweet experts on Burgplatz with the famous chocolate fountain in the shop window, "Kakaobier No. 2," a dark craft beer from the manufacturer Camondas in Dresden, is all the rage right now. Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops, yeast, cocoa shells, sugar and cocoa beans. Anyone who assumes the beer would be sweet will be proven wrong. It is rather tart, a real beer with five percent alcohol - and chocolate flavor in the finish. For local patriots and people with a sweet tooth, the malty, drinkable Altbierlikör Dükör produced in Düsseldorf is the perfect choice, ideally in combination with a few homemade "Düsseldorfer Bützchen," Gut und Gerne's own chocolates.

Moritz Wenz Store & Studio

The SOS times, when men had to be happy at Christmas with socks, dress shirt and tie, are finally passé. In Düsseldorf, product designer and goldsmith Moritz Wenz on Ackerstraße in Flinger has contributed his fair share to this. Fancy gin and rum varieties, beautiful vintner's knives, robust leather accessories, heavy steel pans, thick lambswool blankets or nourishing beard oil made of verbena. The harsh winter can come.

Broilers: Christmas album 'Santa Claus

The fans of the Düsseldorf punk band Broilers have been eagerly waiting for it: The Broilers' Christmas album "Santa Claus." With 14 festive songs - including two new ones - and twelve cover versions of the punks' favorite Christmas songs. From the Pogues to the Ramones, from Bad Manners to Bing Crosby. But you shouldn't wait too long: "Santa Claus" is limited to 12,000 numbered vinyl records. Even more exclusive: the "Santa Claus" fan-fun bundle, limited to 1,500 copies, includes a CD or vinyl album, a bottle of the company's own "Donner & Blitzen" mulled wine and a handwritten Christmas card. It doesn't get any more festive than this!

"Hope Street": Campino's football fan diary

Everything he touches turns to gold. Campino from Düsseldorf is not only one of Germany's most popular musicians, he is also a bestselling author. In his book 'Hope Street', the Die Toten Hosen singer talks about his love of Liverpool FC, his German-British family and his second home, which stands somewhere between the Beatles and Brexit. His first autobiographical book is a brilliant success and is now finally available in paperback.

Dusseldorf Fine Art Prints by Henk Wyniger

The hearts of home-loving retro fans beat faster: The Düsseldorf Fine Art Prints by illustrator Henk Wyniger are based on travel posters from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, but show the most beautiful corners of Wyniger's adopted home of Düsseldorf: the racecourse, the Rotthäuser Bachtal, the Grafenberger Wald and the Paradiesstrand. Another motif is in the pipeline for the winter - the ice skating rink on Corneliusplatz. So be sure to check it out: all posters are available in Wyniger's online store.
