Six flower stores that will make your heart swell and your eyes glaze over

Something is blooming here for you!

Being close to nature is a quality of life for many people. And that doesn't just apply outdoors. Lush greenery and colorful blossoms also have a mood-lifting effect in the office, in one's own home, or in the spreading hybrid form known as the home office. However, a beautiful bouquet is more than a random combination of flowers. Here too, as always in matters of style, the wheat is separated from the chaff. We present to you below six flower stores where the florists perform small natural wonders with blossom and leaf.

Dog rose

Style fetishists know: Not all flower stores are the same. And the Dornrose in the old hydraulics factory on Lindenstraße in Flingern stands out from the bulk of florists for many colorful reasons. Sabine Krusekopf prefers to buy regionally and seasonally - directly from gardeners with whom she has been working for a long time. Standard goods do not cross her threshold. The tasteful owner of the Dornrose complements the select range of flowers with exotic blossoms. Depending on the season, fragrant roses, delicate checkerboard flowers or strong cherry blossom branches await their lovers. Sometimes the one or other opulent protea also finds a place on the large flower island, which takes up half the space of the pretty store. Krusekopf is also off the beaten track when it comes to accessories: planters made of natural rubber, recycled car tires or a combination of sand and paper are also part of the portfolio.

Victor Breuer

Victor Breuer is a master florist, which makes him a rare breed. Originally, architecture and interior design were at the top of his list of career aspirations, but coincidence, or more precisely a temporary job in his aunt's design store, brought him into contact with flowers. Breuer stuck with it and saw it through to master school in Straubing, Lower Bavaria. A commitment that paid off: When the French luxury group LVMH wants to give Advent wreaths, Victor Breuer implements the briefing from Paris. The 31-year-old not only sends his flower arrangements all over Germany, but also regularly to London, sometimes even to Miami. He has been running his own store on Prinz-Georg-Strasse for two and a half years - his style has become influential. He combines unconventionally, ties his bouquets loosely, understands minimalism as well as maximalism. "Every flower needs its free space," says Victor Breuer. Helping nature to its best possible effect is his claim, and anyone who visits the successful florist in his hallowed halls can't help but notice: Breuer lives up to his credo masterfully.

Fir plank

The Tannendiele is a place of green happiness. Michael Frings' enthusiasm for his flowers and plants is impossible to resist. "My baby carriage was in a greenhouse," says the florist. His parents had a horticultural business in the Eifel, so he was born with a green thumb. The fact that he has created a place with the Tannendiele where flower lovers can share his passion can be considered a stroke of luck. Originally, Frings, who is self-employed, was only looking for a workshop, but got carried away with the idea of his own business when he discovered the beautiful premises in a house dating from 1893 on Tannenstraße. Here, he now works in his self-created jungle of exotic and native plants, traversed only by a few narrow paths. In between, glass mini-greenhouses, vases and vessels from India, Vietnam and the Philippines. Frings does not limit his work to Düsseldorf. He is a regular guest on the ZDF program "Volle Kanne" and presents his decorating ideas here every three to four weeks. For those who want to experience him live: The Tannendiele also offers thematic workshops on flower arranging.

Flowers F.U.S.S.

The classic. This wonderful store has existed on East Street since 1901, in the midst of the Japanese-influenced bustle of Little Tokyo and surrounded by inner-city traffic. The large golden letters on the black exterior of the flower house promise exclusivity. And indeed, the impression is reinforced upon entering the spacious, two-story store: Blumen F.U.S.S. is a veritable oasis of beauty, indeed, an Eldorado for the senses. Hundreds of blossoms compete for scent in the warm, humid air. Potted plants of considerable scale and vessels, vases and planters - many in the Japanese-inspired wabi-sabi aesthetic - flank the fresh cut flowers. Do you have an unusual taste? And do you like to have a little more? Then you've come to the right place. A shiny black wing and a pitch-black tomcat, who prefers to guard the cash register, are part of the inventory.

Bloombox Flingern

A storm of color! At Bloombox, located on the corner of Hermannstrasse and Lindenstrasse, one of the most popular and lively corners in hip Flingern, flower lovers are immersed in a sea of ranunculus, gerbera, orchids, tulips and carnations. However, one flower is missing: the red rose. This classic is not so highly favored by Bloombox owner Oliver Schladitz and therefore not on the shopping list for the wholesale flower market, where he gets his joy-giving goods. Schladitz, who took a detour through the hotel industry before landing in the flower biz, draws his inspiration from many sources: his travels and art, for example. Candles, vases, cushions, lamps - the master florist also feels at home in the world of decoration. So no one will go empty-handed here, even if it doesn't rain red roses.

Michels flowers

An acanthus, also called "true hogweed," defines the logo of Michels Blumen on Bilker Allee. For owner Mark Höllermann, this hardy, thistle-like plant, which retreats in winter and reinvents itself in spring, combines the poles of his work: nature, architecture, art and craft. Thus, there is not only one well-known ornament inspired by the plant. The characteristic leaves of the acanthus, for example, also adorn the capitals of Corinthian columns, but can also be found in carpet weaving. For all its love of ornamentation, the store of the trained architect not far from the Bilk church is comparatively straightforward in design. Organic liveliness is provided by the plants, above all the often long-stemmed cut flowers that compete for space in front of the wall painted in dark petrol. Höllermann is well-known in the city for his arrangements, with which he delights private customers and businesses. The fact that he hasn't run out of ideas in 17 years is due to his keen interest in the zeitgeist and his never-ending enthusiasm for new botanical discoveries.
