Düsseldorf's beautiful parks

We show you six insider tips

Düsseldorf is greener than almost any other major city. Parks and green spaces form a green axis across the Rhine metropolis. In addition to the large and well-known parks such as the Hofgarten or the Rheinpark , Düsseldorf has numerous smaller, lovingly designed and historically grown parks that are worth discovering.

Japanese Garden in North Park

Since 1975, a part of the North Park has been laid out as a "Japanese Pond Garden". Everything in the approximately 5,000-square-meter area has a deeper symbolic meaning, whether tree, hill, stone, lantern or spring. The island in the pond, for example, stands for an "island of the lowly." Colorful carp cavort in the water, some of which still come from temple ponds in Nara, Japan.

Dickebush

The park called "Dickebusch" near Heltorf Castle in the northern district of Angermund is one of the most beautiful Lower Rhine forest parks in the English landscape style. It is especially known for its rhododendron plantation, which is considered the second oldest in Germany. The park is open until October 31 on Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 18:00.

Elbroichpark

With its approximately 40 tree species, Elbroichpark is one of Düsseldorf's most diverse green spaces. Inspired by the former course of the small river Itter, it stretches in the Holthausen district over gentle hills and large plains with centuries-old trees that, like Elbroich Castle, are a great eye-catcher.

Flora Garden

The Floragarten is the green lung of the densely built-up Bilk district. The small park, laid out in the late 19th century, consists of winding paths around a romantic-looking pond. An educational tree trail through the park explains 31 different woody plants.

Rheingärtchen

Situated between the Fortuna-Büdchen and the Rheinterrasse, the Rheingärtchen, a listed building, was created in 1927/28. To this day, the complex has remained almost unchanged in all its essential structures and offers itself as a place of peace and leisure in the midst of the pulsating city life.

Rose Garden

The Stadtmuseum in Palais Spee in Carlstadt not only guards many interesting facts about Düsseldorf, but also has an enchanted rose garden that can be reached through a wrought-iron gate at the back of the building. Between old trees and sculptures, benches invite visitors to linger.
