Six cult snacks

Six cult snacks

We introduce you to six snack bars that are particularly popular with locals.

You're out and about in the city and need a quick bite to eat? The snack bar is just the thing. Down-to-earth fare without frills is also appreciated by Düsseldorfers.

Berlin snack bar

The Berliner Imbiss has been around since 1985. It was founded by real Berliners: Olaf Müglitz and his sons Sven and Glen. When the three of them moved to Düsseldorf, they sorely missed a proper currywurst. So they decided to offer it themselves. The original snack truck in Kaiserswerth is now passé. Instead, the Berlin snack bar now has three permanent stalls at Klemensplatz, Graf-Adolf-Platz and Bilker S-Bahn station.

Lupo

Lupo am Bolker Stern is simply an institution. Generations of visitors to the old town have started their evening at the corner pizzeria or ended it on the way home with a margherita on a paper plate. At Lockdown, too, you can get your hands on the classics quickly without much chichi.

Ham Ham by Josef

Even "Kitchen Impossible" chef Tim Mälzer had to capitulate. Preparing pork shank in the ham grill is no easy task. It takes a lot of intuition to properly operate the 40-year-old grill, which the previous owner had specially built. Fortunately, owner Marinko Miletic and his family have years of experience with it, so that further generations can enjoy juicy, crispy pork buns.

Cheese kebab

The cheese doner kebab on the Kö does not yet have a long tradition, but this does not detract from its popularity. Since mid-March, Charlett and David Tscheike have been stuffing Swiss cheese into the kebab pockets in their bright yellow food truck. This is garnished with pan-fried vegetables, salad and a homemade sauce. And if you can't do without meat, you can get bacon, chicken ham or sausage on request.

Curry

Has it really been that long? In 1999, Curry opened as Germany's first currywurst restaurant. Prosecco was served with the sausage, which was covered in gold leaf. That's when tempers flared! But the Curry has always stood for good quality: a recipe from a star chef, sausage from a trusted butcher. Plus handmade fries from fresh potatoes and a wide selection of sauces. And not to forget the homemade coleslaw! Do you want to try it? In the harbor and in Pempelfort you will find the "Curry Buud".

MY Vegetable Kebab

Fans of meatless snacks will get their money's worth from the guys at MY Gemüse Döner. With their relaxed Berlin style, Suleyman and Erkan attract their guests to Bachstraße 126 in Bilk. In addition to the classic doner kebab, they also serve doner kebab with vegan meat made from seitan and always fresh grilled vegetables. Not only for vegans and vegetarians a favorite snack.
