6 favorite tours from travel blogger Jessica Niedergesäß

There are many beautiful corners in Düsseldorf. So many, in fact, that Jessica Niedergesäß of Yummy Travel has collected the best in her new book "52 Escapades in and around Düsseldorf." She has compiled her favorites for us and explains what makes her favorite places in Düsseldorf and a bit further afield.

#1 The mystical Urdenbacher Kämpe

Enjoy the AuenBlick! That is the motto in the dreamy Urdenbacher Kämpe. Numerous apple and pear trees line the paths and, unlike many other areas, the Rhine is still allowed to flood its meadows here.

At the start in the Bürgel meadows, meadow herbs such as meadow buttercup and goatsbeard conjure up a variety of bright colors in the landscape. In addition, about 850 pear trees and 400 apple trees complete the beautiful picture of the original landscape.

The circular route leads to the Rhine and this shows itself at sunset of course from its most beautiful and charming way. Perfect for an evening sundowner.

#2 Hey Heine!

Hardly any other personality has left his mark on Düsseldorf like the poet Heinrich Heine. In the old town, you can still feel like Heinrich Heine during a walk - so let's go!

The starting point of the escapade is of course his birthplace and after a refreshment in the Haubrauerei Zum Schlüssel you start well nourished with Düsseldorf dishes to a leisurely walk through the city. 7 stops invite you to get to know the life and Heine closer.

#3 Manorial Kaiserswerth

The big city is sometime too noisy, the stores too uniform? No problem! Just a stone's throw from Düsseldorf's city center, everyone can find a haven of peace in tranquil and idyllic Kaiserswerth. Here you feel really at home.

Hardly anyone believes that there are still places in Düsseldorf that have a village flair. The Kaiserswerth district with its small town center is pure idyll. The historic old town lies in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine, and is only a stone's throw away from it. Views of the vein of Düsseldorf are therefore guaranteed.

#4 Pink cherry blossoms on the Rhine

The cherry blossom festival Hanami traditionally celebrates the farewell to winter in Japan. And even near Düsseldorf, you can be a part of the beautiful spectacle without much hustle and bustle. Here, the cherry trees bloom especially beautifully! Almost everyone knows the cherry blossom in Bonn. So how about visiting an equally beautiful (if not more beautiful) place to marvel at the delicate pink spectacle? In April, Meerbusch has been celebrating the Meerbusch Cherry Blossom Festival since 2019. Visitors can look forward to drummers, dancers, ikebana and culinary delights from Japan. But even outside the festival, it is definitely recommended to make a trip to Meerbusch.

#5 Cuddle with alpacas

Already from afar you can hear the goats, ducks and chickens greet you warmly, also the dogs and cats are friendly. The two donkeys Herbert and Heinz are happy about extensive petting. But the not-so-secret stars of the Alpaca View Lodge are - as the name suggests - the many woolly alpacas on the farm. The highlight of a stay in the Lower Rhine countryside is definitely an alpaca walk with the cute animals, almost all of whom have names from the magical Harry Potter world. So nothing stands in the way of an encounter with Hagrid, Minerva and Harry.

#6 Float into the Middle Ages

Get into your chair and into the Middle Ages! Although you don't walk across the Wupper, you do float over it to Burg Castle. The Müngsten Bridge Park and the nature reserve around the castle are also perfect places for hiking and exploring.

Once you have arrived at Burg Castle, you will immediately see the cable car from the lower castle, which floats up to the castle and back again without stopping. If you don't suffer from vertigo, a ride on the cable car to the upper castle should be a must. Up you have a wonderful view of the castle Burg, down on the forests of the Bergisches Land.
