Six special music events in the open air

For live music, festival and pop culture, music fans will find many outdoor venues in Düsseldorf this summer. Almost every week there are festivals, concerts or DJ sets in the green. Some events already have a longer tradition , others have reinvented themselves under Corona or were born through it. What do they have in common? Original venues, special views and a diverse program.

New Fall Festival Summer Edition

Normally, the "New Fall" - as the name suggests - takes place in the fall. Then well-known musicians* play in churches, ballrooms or former planetariums. Corona is to blame for the festival occupying the green space in the Ehrenhof museum area for the second year in a row - in the best possible way. With a view of the Kunstpalast and Tonhalle, you can watch well-known live acts like Tocotronic, Faber or Drangsal in a deck chair. Newly docked is a festival platform where podcasts are recorded live in the green.

Date: July 19 - August 18

Beats & BBQ

Meet the local DJ scene! The NRW Forum is dedicated body and soul to pop culture anyway. On the terrace in front of the impressive building of the Ehrenhof ensemble on the Rhine, the best DJs of the city meet and play old school hip hop, soul and funk. In addition, the PONG's in-house gastronomy serves a summer BBQ. Every Saturday from 15:00, the public garden is probably the most relaxed place in town.

Dates: from 05 June every Saturday

Court Garden Concerts

In August, music in Düsseldorf will finally be playing outside again in the Hofgarten. For more than 55 years, the Hofgarten concerts have been an integral part of Düsseldorf's calendar of events - and in the second pandemic year, too, they can take place with adapted concepts. Four dates have been fixed for August. Fans can book the free tickets in advance (advance sales start soon).

Date: the first four Sundays in August

Parklife

"Raus in die Stadtgärten!" is the motto of the event, which takes up the great tradition of public green spaces in Düsseldorf in a contemporary way. Every Sunday, a summer DJ picnic is offered in well-known and rather unknown city parks. Whether it's Hofgarten, Zoopark or Alter Bilker Friedhof - two or three street food stands, plenty of cool drinks and cool music at a reasonable volume bring clubbers and families together. Or even former clubbers who now have families.

Dates: 04 June to 29 August in various parks

Dusseldorf Festival

Until a few years ago, the festival was called "Altstadtherbst," which also had to do with the location of the large theater tent on Burgplatz. To this day, the festival does not fit into any pigeonhole, uniting theater, music, new circus and dance. Everything that is "performing arts" has the potential to be on the program at the Düsseldorf Festival. Every year, international artists and ensembles can be discovered here. This time with a pop-up location: a shiny silver, walk-in bubble dome will be erected on the Rhine meadows in Oberkassel.

Dates: 08 - 27 September

Chance Festival

New in town this year: the Chance Festival, dedicated to French music. One of the most magical places in the city has been chosen for this. The racecourse Grafenberg is a universe of its own, where - above the rooftops of the city - you can come together in summer in an excellent way. In the middle of nature and at the same time close to the city, the following perform: Suzane, Flo Delavega, Sally, Berywam, David Walters and Amadou & Mariam. Vive le France!

Date: 03 - 04 September
