Six streets worth seeing that you should definitely take a stroll along
We'll show you a few addresses that you should check out
Maybe it's your "own" street right on your doorstep. Or one in your favorite part of town. Düsseldorf has no shortage of beautiful and unusual streets, especially as - bonus! - are often captivating due to their very different characteristics. We have selected six streets in five different districts that are always worth a visit.
Brunnenstraße, Bilk
Brunnenstraße is located in Friedrichstadt, just a few minutes away from Königsallee. Always busy, always full of hustle and bustle, you will discover a wide variety of stores here: right by the Düssel, you can put together your own bouquet of flowers and then sample Arabic specialties such as "Franjieh", a beef ragout, lamb medallions and mousakáa in the "Layali" restaurant next door. A menu full of Greek delicacies awaits at "Kavala" a few doors down. If you are looking for sustainable yet chic fashion, pop into the Yavana Green Store. Owner Margarete Wiemer always offers particularly friendly advice without any rush. The sustainable and delicious "Pure Note" unpackaged store with snacks and cakes in the courtyard is the next stop. At the small but lovely café "Süße Erinnerung" (Sweet Memories), you can collect exactly that - unless you're planning a vacation anyway. In that case, you'll find the right equipment at "Sack und Pack".
Zietenstraße, Golzheim
One of the most popular streets in spring: Zietenstraße in Golzheim! Here, one splendidly blossoming cherry tree follows the next, which is why the corner becomes one of the most sought-after photo backdrops in the city in March and April. But the street, which is just a ten-minute walk from the Rhine, is also a great place for a stroll in summer, fall and winter. On a tour, you will discover banana plants and grasses that are unusually large for a city in Central Europe, as well as models of sailing boats behind the window panes of buildings from the imperial and interwar periods and, of course, the New Synagogue on Paul-Spiegel-Platz. Be sure to book a guided tour of the latter to gain an insight into Jewish life in Düsseldorf. Also not far away: the Robert Schumann University, whose students regularly give concerts. Who knows what Mozartian sounds can be heard as far away as Zietenstraße...
Lorettostraße, Unterbilk
All roads lead to Rome - and certainly to Lorettostrasse. Whether you are coming to Unterbilk for the first or what feels like the 1001st time, a day here is always an event. While many cities lack owner-managed stores, here you will find one shopping highlight after the next. Be it delicious food at "Fromagerie Armel Laas", handmade chocolates, pralines and pastries at "Bittersüß & Edelweiß", clothing and accessories at "Four Seasons Lifestyle" or a new beard cut at "Captain's Barber Shop" (to name just a few). Not spending any money is likely to be a challenge. And you don't have to go home hungry either: In the restaurant "K" you can get delicious burgers with unusual decorations, while "Kyodaina Poke & Sushi" offers - that's right - poke bowls and sushi. At "Rob's Kitchen", many guests praise the Michelin-starred cuisine at reasonable prices.
Belsenstraße, Oberkassel
If one word had to describe Belsenstrasse, it would probably be "homely". Even non-Oberkassler residents feel right at home here, the district is so cozy. Not too hustle and bustle, not too remote - somehow just right. You can also store to your heart's content here, but mainly in owner-run stores such as the toy store "Phantasalto" or the "Dogsmopolitan" for everything to do with dogs. In the morning, the fresh aroma of "Kaffeeschmiede" will wake you up, while in the evening you can sample top-quality Italian cuisine at "Da Noi".
Kiefernstraße, Flingern
In the past, members of the RAF were said to have lived in Kiefernstraße in the hip Flingern district - together with squatters. Today, families, singles and couples live here who probably can't get enough of their houses. Where else do you find graffiti decorating buildings in such an appealing way? A crossword puzzle can be seen here, monkeys hop from one window to another there, while Rapunzel lets her hair down. If she weren't trapped in her tower, she would certainly drop by the AK 47 punk club, an institution in the neighborhood. Don't forget your camera! Street art fans will want to plan their move.
Marc-Chagall-Straße with Maurice-Ravel-Park, Pempelfort
If you enter Marc-Chagall-Straße into Google, you might be surprised by the two words that automatically appear in the search: "rent apartment". But when you get there, it quickly becomes clear why: in one of the city's most beautiful residential areas, "Le Flair", the atmosphere is primarily relaxed despite its close proximity to the Düsseldorf-Zoo S-Bahn station (the new buildings were erected on the former site of the Derendorf goods station). The Maurice Ravel Park, named after the Jewish composer, undoubtedly contributes to the relaxed atmosphere. A memorial commemorating the deportation of more than 6,000 Jews from Düsseldorf is integrated into the park. The four-hectare green space, which stretches across the entire street, is arranged in the shape of a slope and offers more than enough space for hours of picnics with plenty of benches and seating, especially as the children try their hand at the play equipment. With a bit of luck, young and old can even go tobogganing in winter - and better only four or five meters than not at all, right?
