Mike Litt in conversation with Selim Varol
How's it going, Düsseldorf?
Our podcast "Alle Rhein" is our platform for everyone who makes sure that you are almost constantly surrounded by culture in Düsseldorf - whether on a small or large scale. Our host Mike Litt talks to his guests about the most exciting projects and finds out what artists, event organizers and other creative people love about their city and where they like to be in their private lives.
In episode 35, Mike talks to Selim Varol, collector and curator of the Wonderwalls exhibition at the NRW-Forum.
"Wonderwalls - Art & Toys" is the name of the new, literally intoxicating "exhibition" at the NRW Forum - with 3,000 toys, playthings and works by world-famous artists such as Banksy, JR and KAWS. This unique show, which has probably never been seen anywhere else in the world, is thanks to Düsseldorf collector Selim Varol. He has been collecting toys since childhood. He developed a passion for street art at an early age, when it was still an insider tip in the underground and its works were still affordable. Varol is now sharing what he has collected over the decades with visitors at the NRW-Forum until spring 2023. In this episode, Selim Varol explains why he set up his entire office in the Forum, how it all began after his mother tidied up his childhood room, and much more.
Our host
Mike Litt was born in the US state of Virginia and lived in Bochum for many years. The globetrotter usually works in Cologne but lives with his family in the beautiful Düsseltal district of Düsseldorf. He is a radio presenter (1Live, WDR 2, DLF Nova), a DJ with Mayday festival experience and an author (‘The loneliest DJ in the world’). For our podcast, he holds fascinating conversations with other people from Düsseldorf’s cultural scene.
