The monument by artist Claus Richter was unveiled on the occasion of Christopher Street Day 2021 and has since served as a reminder that respectful coexistence cannot be taken for granted. The four bronze figures depicted symbolise all spectrums of sexual and gender diversity and hold hands together. With this work of art, Düsseldorf has created a place where discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans*people is commemorated. At the same time, the monument symbolises a colourful and cosmopolitan city and calls on everyone to take a stand against hatred and exclusion.
