Radregion Rheinland (Rhineland cycling region)
Mem Rädche op Jöck
The aim of Radregion Rheinland e.V. is to make cycling attractive for local recreationists and tourists. The association was founded in 2011 and is an association of districts and independent cities in the region around Düsseldorf and Cologne.
The cities of Cologne, Leverkusen and Düsseldorf and the surrounding districts are involved: the Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis, the Oberbergische Kreis, the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss and the Kreis Mettmann.
The Rhineland cycling region is characterised above all by the constant change between city and countryside, the Rhenish hospitality and the comprehensive network of junctions.
Cycle from the hustle and bustle of city life to the peace, quiet and vastness with impressive panoramas and horizons. On the almost 4,000-kilometre network of cycle paths, they pass fairytale forests and parks, colourful towns, historic castles and town centres as well as open-cast mines and reservoirs. Düsseldorf has been part of the Rhineland cycling region since 2024 and is therefore also equipped with a network of convenient junctions for cyclists.
Cycling by numbers
Tour planning made easy
Planning long routes or tediously searching for the right path are a thing of the past: With the intuitive junction system, cycle tours can now be put together easily and according to individual taste.
Along the 91 red and white marked junctions in Düsseldorf and over 600 junctions in the Rhineland cycling region, you will find extensive nature, breathtaking panoramas, urban flair and cultural diversity. Following the example of the Netherlands and Belgium, routes can also be put together flexibly beyond the city limits of Düsseldorf.
The junction system in the Rhineland cycling region offers maximum flexibility on around 4000 kilometres of route network: the standardised red and white signage system throughout NRW is supplemented by the honeycomb-like junction system. At the intersections of these honeycombs there are "junctions", which are marked with a number outlined in red. An overview board at these points shows which route leads to the next junction. Inserts below the signposts show the direction to neighbouring junctions.
The Düsseldorf cycle network map is also suitable for planning a cycle tour on the junction network in advance and while travelling. Over the course of the year, we will be presenting route suggestions here that cyclists can follow using the Düsseldorf junctions. This allows them to experience selected highlights independently and at their own pace.
