Useful Information
Shopping & Fashion in Düsseldorf
Königsallee is the most exclusive and best-known shopping street in Düsseldorf. This is where the luxurious heart of the city beats. From Prada and Gucci to Louis Vuitton. Hermès. Chanel and Dior to Tiffany's - for international fashion pilgrims, Kö is “the place to be - and to be seen”. Whoever wants to splash out a little less, should turn right at the northern end of the Kö into the Schadowstrasse. This is where the fashion paradise for medium and smaller budgets begins. Uniqlo, Peek & Cloppenburg and C&A are the top dogs. The favourite streets for individualists are two or three metro stops away from the centre: Take a stroll down Loretto Street in Unterbilk to discover pretty boutiques, chocolate shops and cafés. Ackerstrasse in the Flingern district is also very popular among the hip clientele, where Concept Stores, sustainable fashion labels and interior design shops can all be found.
The P1, which is held on the fairgrounds of the same name, and the Radschlägermarkt on the Düsseldorf wholesale market area are the most enchanting flea markets in the city. From antique furniture and jewellery to vintage clothing to used design classics, you can literally find everything there. Both markets are usually held on Sundays. The Radschlägermarkt is also held in winter. You can look up the dates for both markets at www.expo-concept.de/Termine-fuer-Troedelmaerkte and for the Radschlägermarkt at www.radschlaegermarkt-duesseldorf.de
The Carlsplatz is a gourmet’s paradise. At the approximately 60 stalls, you will find gourmet souvenirs for every palate: special spices, liqueurs, teas or a pot of Düsseldorf mustard. For the mustard, which is as much a part of the typical brewery cuisine as the lid is to an Altbier, there are two special places to go: the Gewürzhaus Altstadt (Old Town Spice House) and the Düsseldorf Senfladen (Mustard Shop).
The Apropos Concept Store in Benrather Strasse near the Carlsplatz is probably the most exclusive of its kind in Düsseldorf. Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Céline - the A-Z of fashion can be found here. Around the corner at Selekteur, the owner, Felix Staeudinger not only places great value on the most beautiful things, but also on sustainable production. In the Flingern district, some shopkeepers put their heart and soul into their selected products. Goldsmith Moritz Wenz sells jewellery, fine blankets and exquisite schnapps in his eponymous studio on Ackerstrasse. The Rike Stephani empire can be found just down the street. Lovers of graphic and interior design will get their money's worth in her corner shop, Rikiki.
