The Heinrich Heine Institute, dedicated to the writer, is situated in the historic patrician houses at Bilker Straße 12–14 and, with its archive, library, museum and numerous events, is an important centre for literary and cultural outreach. The world’s only Heinrich Heine Museum displays manuscripts, first editions and letters, contemporary portraits and Heine’s death mask. The institute also houses the Rhenish Literary Archive and the Robert Schumann Collection.
