The Hoppeditz monument is the symbolic figure of the Düsseldorf carnival. Since 2008, it has stood behind the Haus des Karnevals, designed by Bert Gerresheim, as a tribute to the tradition and foolish spirit of the city.
As early as 1841, a monument was dedicated to the Hoppeditz, erected by renowned artists such as Andreas Achenbach and Emanuel Leutze. This disappeared in 1860, but the tradition lives on: the new monument is a symbol of the long history of the carnival and Düsseldorf's vibrant culture.
