The foundation's work honors Johanna Ey, an important art dealer and patron in the 1920s who became known as “Mother Ey”. A baker by trade, she transformed her store into a meeting place for avant-garde artists such as Otto Dix and Max Ernst. Her commitment helped many artists achieve international fame. The foundation, established in 2024, continues this legacy by supporting young people in the arts and giving them an opportunity to develop their skills. A particular focus is on cultural exchange between Düsseldorf and its partner cities in order to promote new creative impulses. With its work, the Johanna Ey Foundation keeps the legacy of an extraordinary woman alive and contributes to the enrichment of Düsseldorf's art and culture scene.
