The Jröner Jong fountain in the Hofgarten shows the sea god Triton having breakfast - until a hippopotamus appears. Humorous, rich in detail and surrounded by greenery, it is a charming piece of Düsseldorf's city history.
The fountain in the round pond in Düsseldorf's Hofgarten surprises with a bizarre scene: the sea god Triton is sitting at breakfast when a hippopotamus suddenly emerges from the water and shoots a fountain out of its mouth. The group of figures was created around 1900 by sculptor Joseph Hammerschmidt - originally as a humorous caricature of the Triton Fountain on Königsallee. The fountain combines art, humour and nature and is a popular place to take a break in the greenery.
