The word onomato comes from onomatopoetic and means onomatopoetic. This term, which oscillates between sound and image, characterizes the core of the onomato artists' association, whose beginnings are linked to the onomato audio book publishing house. With the support of the Düsseldorf Department of Culture, the association has been able to set up an audio/video workstation in recent years. This enables the production of artists' projects and offers a wide range of media training opportunities.
The event program includes screenings of visual art, film, sound art and animation. There are lectures on art-historical topics, as well as discussions of works by and with artists.
