During their time in Düsseldorf, Robert and Clara Schumann, together with their children, found suitable accommodation in this house at Bilker Straße 15. It was there that Robert Schumann composed numerous works, which account for almost a third of his entire body of work.
The Schumann House in Düsseldorf is now regarded as the only surviving residence of the famous musical family that retains its original historic structure. The newly opened Schumann House is home to a modern music museum and thus serves as a living memorial to the musical couple. Eight exhibition rooms showcase numerous valuable original artefacts alongside multimedia stations and installations. The museum also houses rarely exhibited items from the city’s music collection, which ranks among the most significant Schumann collections in the world. During a wide variety of events, visitors can immerse themselves in the musical culture of the 19th century and the intense period of Clara and Robert Schumann’s lives and work in Düsseldorf.
