Journey back in time with Elector Jan Wellem and explore Düsseldorf’s Old Town from a new and unusual historical perspective. Your tour guide in historical dress takes you all the way back to the 17th century! As the Elector himself shows you around the Old Town, you discover how a fishing village grew into a vibrant city with a thriving art scene.
Düsseldorf past and present. Elector Jan Wellem, the most powerful man in Düsseldorf during the 17th century, brings the city’s story to life as he leads you on a walk through the lanes of the Altstadt (Old Town). Enjoy local history and anecdotes from the man himself! The spirit of times gone by becomes tangible as you visit the castle tower, market square and the old port, while the ‘longest bar in the world’ represents the Old Town’s more contemporary face.
A city with regal traditions, Düsseldorf combines both Rhenish joie de vivre and southern European flair as Jan Wellem’s second wife, Anna Luisa Maria de’ Medici, hailed from Florence. Düsseldorf reached a cultural heyday under the baroque ruler and his wife. Jan Wellem also put the city on the European map, with his famous collection of paintings laying the foundations to establish Düsseldorf as an international centre of the arts.
Join the group of noble guests and discover Düsseldorf “as it is today and as it once was”.
