Known as “Platz der Medien” or “Ueckerplatz”, the square in front of the media center in Düsseldorf's port was designed by the artist Günther Uecker on behalf of the city as a multifunctional square with an open-air cinema. Until about eight years ago, the Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf organized the Hafenlichtspiele here; since then, the semi-circular benches, the projection tower and the playable exterior wall of the cultural office have led an abandoned existence. Here, the company art.vision, as organizer and with the support of the Cultural Office and the Cultural Department of the City of Düsseldorf, is opening the HafenKunstKino - the first permanent installation for film and video art in public spaces in the state capital of Düsseldorf.
