Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (Art gallery) (including Salon des Amateurs)
The brutalist building on Grabbeplatz built in 1967, opposite the K20 Art Collection, hides an important Düsseldorf art location.
Beschreibung
The Kunsthalle, popularly known as the “art bunker” due to the windowless exposed concrete façade, does not have its own collection and focuses on changing exhibitions, And although it is well known to everyone in Düsseldorf, there is a detail that by far not all know: A black stove pipe from Joseph Beuys rises up from the western outer wall. “The black hole” was installed in 1981 as a replica of a fireplace tube obtained in the Beuys Atelier Drakeplatz. Where art connoisseurs bustle during the day, people dance at night. In 2004 the Salon des amateurs opened in the same place, a legendary nightclub for avant-garde electronic music.
