10th Düsseldorf Street Kiosk Day
All City at the Büdchen. All City thanks to the Büdchen. Under this motto, Düsseldorf’s Büdchentag will once again celebrate Büdchen culture on Saturday 5 September 2026 with a unique, free and decentralised city festival.
To mark the anniversary, the association had, for the first time, issued a public call for participants. Until the end of May 2026, not only kiosk operators could apply, but also – explicitly – creative professionals from the fields of choral singing, literature, theatre and the arts, i.e. areas beyond the traditional Büdchentag line-up of bands and DJs. As a result, Büdchentag has also expanded geographically: for the first time, kiosks in Oberkassel, Lierenfeld, Unterrath and Gerresheim are taking part. Büdchentag thus reaches significantly further into the city’s neighbourhoods than in previous years.
Büdchentag is supported by venues that have been part of the event for the past ten years. The Hip-Hop Büdchen at Kiosk Karakus, Bedris Island in Bilk, the Trinkhalle at Rochusmarkt, Kiosk 46 in Flingern and the Sri Lankan Büdchen in Oberbilk have been part of the festival since its first edition in 2016. Other regular fixtures on the programme include the Trinkhalle at the Volksgarten and the Büdchen at Dorotheenplatz. Over the years, each of these Büdchen has developed its own distinct character – ranging from hip-hop parties to neighbourhood get-togethers with live music.
To mark the anniversary, Büdchentag is opening its doors on this scale for the first time to partners from Düsseldorf’s cultural scene. Together with the Literaturbüro NRW, a literature kiosk is being set up in the Büdchendorf on Fürstenplatz. The Theatre Museum is hosting an international snack contest. The Stadt:Kollektiv from the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and the ‘zuhören draußen’ project are bringing theatre and conversation to the kiosks. The Stadtbild Düsseldorf initiative is creating a collective portrait featuring 300 people from the city. Psychologists for Future will be on site with their own programme.
Not only is Büdchentag celebrating its 10th anniversary, but so too is the town twinning between Düsseldorf and Palermo. To mark the occasion, there will be a Palermo kiosk (U-Bilk, Bilker Allee 3) featuring plenty of Italian music. Marina Morena and Riccardo Schirò from Palermo will be performing there. They run a record shop in the Sicilian capital; in Düsseldorf, they’ll be bringing a touch of Palermo’s zest for life to the kiosk.
The range of activities for families has expanded significantly. The children’s and family programme is once again sponsored by the BürgerStiftung Düsseldorf and will take place at several stalls across the city’s neighbourhoods.
This year, Rheinbahn is transporting visitors through the city via a vintage tram shuttle. The service runs between the stops at Medienhafen, Morsestraße, Hauptbahnhof and Bruchstraße – and back again.
When the stalls close for the day, Büdchentag continues in the clubs. A single ticket costing 15 euros grants access to Reinraum, Graf, Giselle and Schleuse Zwei. (Source: Düsseldorfer Büdchentag e.V.)
