Three years ago, this spectacular project was a resounding success with the IDO audience and is now returning by popular demand as an exclusive highlight. The festival’s 21st year demonstrates once again how charmingly this production confidently reinterprets the traditional orchestral structure.
Instead of a conventional orchestra, two visionary female virtuosos and one male virtuoso unfold a gripping dialogue full of wit and depth. Elsa Grether makes her violin sing with a subtle, almost dance-like elegance, whilst Pieter-Jelle de Boer, at the organ, creates a symphonic soundscape in the room with masterful, orchestral registration. Frederike Möller provides the heroic and brilliant counterpoint on the piano, bringing Beethoven’s rhythmic wit to a virtuoso conclusion with ruthless precision.
