2027 is Beethoven Year! And even though, in the world of classical music, every year is essentially Beethoven Year, this special anniversary deserves a special project.
One such event is undoubtedly the grand symphony marathon by Jakub Hrůša and ‘his’ Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. The Czech conductor has been principal conductor of this prestigious Franconian orchestra since 2016; together they are renowned for thoughtfully conceived programmes and thoroughly delightful concert experiences. In 2027, they will present all the symphonies by the Bonn-born master in a cycle spanning two cities: two concerts at the Tonhalle, two at the Cologne Philharmonie. In the first concert, we will witness the exciting development of the young Beethoven, from his First Symphony – which had already caught the attention of the musical world – right through to the magnificent milestone that is the ‘Eroica’: a programme that, in the words of Jakub Hrůša, is ‘simply overwhelming’.
