Big Band meets Jazz Combo
The Düsseldorf youth jazz combo ‘Die Earworms’ will be performing as the support act for the Berlin youth big band ‘Youlity’.
As part of their tour of Germany, Youlity are stopping off in Düsseldorf-Gerresheim. In the hall of the Rudolf Steiner School, jazz standards will be celebrated alongside original compositions. To round off the concert, both bands will play together!
Admission is free; donations are welcome.
The Youlity big band, conducted by Ulrike Arzet, currently consists of 15 young people from Berlin-Kreuzberg. Our line-up is flexible; the right fit is essential, both musically and personally. Our repertoire includes classic jazz tunes, new big band arrangements in
various styles, as well as pieces that have not yet been performed in this line-up. Our pianist, Mark Borissov, writes exciting arrangements for our line-up (including tracks by the band Meute, Snarky Puppy and many more).
With 20 to 25 gigs a year, we spend a lot of time on our music. It’s very important to us and has even become a career for some of our former members.
Every year, we tour for two weeks in Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland. We play at the Berliner Jazztreff, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Fête de la Musique, at festive events, festivals and competitions, and every spring we perform our annual grand concert at the Kreuzberg Waldorf School with a completely
new programme at our big annual concert at the Kreuzberg Waldorf School. We were awarded first prize at the Berliner Jazztreff – which led to our selection for the German Orchestra Competition in the summer of 2025, where we performed successfully and won one of the sponsorship prizes. In the summer of 2026, our first vinyl record and a single were released.
The seven Düsseldorf-based musicians in the band Die Earworms are aged 13 and 14
. In November, they will celebrate their fourth anniversary as a band. The jazz combo came about as a result of Noah’s wish to form a band. His father, Jeremias Bruker (band leader) – himself a musician – promptly brought together a group of children who were keen on jazz. He arranges jazz standards from various styles, film music, and songs by the bands Meute and Moop Mama, always tailoring them to the Earworms’ current proficiency on their instruments. Their repertoire currently comprises 38 pieces. (Source: J. Jeromin)
