A change of scene not only results from the abundance of 100 objects, but also shows historical and aesthetic diversity.
For the most part, objects by costume and set designers are exhibited, but they are not treated as documents of past productions. Instead, they are presented as works of art in their own right. All the pictures and sketches are united by the joy of playfulness. This is because they were used to share visions of scenes with others. You too can be inspired to use your imagination to bring the painted or drawn scenes to life or take them further.
Szenenwechsel starts with the fascination of making theatre: Ernst Stern, who himself worked as a stage designer, has repeatedly captured stage impressions and backstage situations in pictures during his long career. In the second room, the focus is on caricatures by Honoré Daumier, who made fun of bourgeois theatre with great subtlety. With new texts, the pictures still allow humorous observations of society today. In the main room of the exhibition, the majority of the works are presented as rainbows or thematically focussed. The artists Nina Tokumbet, Edith Szewczuk, Wilhelmine Bauer and Thekla Tesch are also in the spotlight. (Source: TMD Theatermuseum Düsseldorf)
