To mark the Beethoven Year 2027, everything that belongs together is coming together: the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Gewandhaus Kapellmeister Andris Nelsons have secured the services of Lang Lang, one of the finest piano soloists of our time, for a Beethoven festival.
How fortunate for us here in Düsseldorf that Leipzig’s leading orchestra not only pays tribute to the grand master of the Viennese Classical period – who, even back then, knew his works were in the best of hands with Leipzig’s publishers and ensembles – at its home in the Gewandhaus, but also sends its musicians on tour! On the first evening, two works bearing the number 3 form the perfect pairing: the famous ‘Eroica’ in the heroic key of E flat major meets the Third Piano Concerto, in which Beethoven treated the piano and orchestra as equal partners for the first time. A showpiece for Lang Lang!
