Daniel Hope is not only one of the most outstanding violinists of our time, but is also active as an artistic director, a bridge-builder between musical traditions and an ambassador for cultural exchange.
With Elgar’s Violin Concerto, he brings one of the English composer’s most personal and expressive works to his concert at the Elbphilharmonie. It demands the highest level of virtuosity from the soloist, subtle phrasing and the ability to shape emotional arcs with power – making it tailor-made for Daniel Hope. He is supported by the highly motivated and accomplished Gstaad Festival Orchestra, with which he has close ties as artistic director of the Menhuin Festival Gstaad. In the second half of the concert, the musicians celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven with a performance of his imposing Fifth – a foretaste, so to speak, of the Beethoven Year 2027.
