On display are photographic motifs from the iconic "Red Couch" series as well as previously rarely shown works from Horst Wackerbarth's oeuvre.
Horst Wackerbarth (*1950) is one of the best-known German photographers. He became famous for his iconic project "The Red Couch - A Gallery of Mankind".
Wackerbarth describes his work as "socio-cultural portraiture", inspired by August Sander, but expanded by contemporary, global themes - migration, environmental protection, social inequality, cultural diversity.
Society in all its diversity is the central motif - and the sofa is the connecting element that puts people on a symbolic level.
With his red sofa, Horst Wackerbarth has not only created an artistic signature - he has also created a multimedia "gallery of humanity", a living archive of global human life.
In addition to selected and iconic motifs from this "Red Couch" series, we are also showing other works by Horst Wackerbarth that have rarely been shown before and reflect the multifaceted nature of his photographic work.
