The pair made documentary films together for almost four decades, in which they tackled different subjects, including German and Soviet contemporary history. They were the first Western filmmakers to be allowed to research the archives of the Soviet Union. This work is being honoured as part of the project "Circe-Archiv aus NRW 2.0: Zeithistorie digital und online" by LVR-Museumsförderung 2024, in cooperation with Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf.
