Award-winning jazz saxophonist, bandleader, actor, composer – and equally at home in the classical world – Branford Marsalis simply refuses to be pigeonholed.
And that’s just as well! For it is precisely his ability to switch so effortlessly between worlds that are only seemingly separate that makes this American musician from the famous jazz family so fascinating. His performance at the Heinersdorff Concerts also remains true to this style: the world-class saxophonist brings to the Tonhalle a brand-new work by composer Jeff Beal, who, amongst other things, wrote the film scores for the series Monk and House of Cards. Alongside him, the democratically organised Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will create a wonderful atmosphere, blending classical and jazz with works by Duke Ellington and George Gershwin.
