For over 20 years, the concerts given by the Robert Schumann University Symphony Orchestra – comprising over 80 students of various nationalities – have been a highlight of the winter term.
Dmitri Shostakovich’s dramatic 11th Symphony forms the centrepiece of this extraordinary concert programme. Shostakovich draws on the events of the pre-revolutionary year 1905 in St Petersburg in a highly evocative manner. He entrusted his true message to the music and, through this symphony, sent a clear message against war and violence.
