Höfeles sends silver sparks flying from his trumpet over the Frank Dupree Trio, whilst Gershwin, Bernstein and Antheil meet Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie. Here, genre boundaries – if they matter at all these days – are not merely politely pushed aside, but joyfully melted away: at times velvety smooth, at times edgy, at times with a proper groove.
