Elgar’s ‘Enigma Variations’ are a musical portrait of friendship: affectionate, enigmatic and rendered with great orchestral warmth. This declaration of friendship brings to a close an evening of 20th- and 21st-century music that combines a spirit of discovery with great violin artistry.
We are delighted to welcome Alena Baeva as the Tonhalle’s first Artist in Residence. With her programmatic approach and her boundless joy in discovery, she is a fitting successor to Frank Peter Zimmermann, Igor Levit, Isabelle Faust, Alexej Gerassimez, Sharon Kam and the vision string quartet.
