Säulenheilige (Stylites)

They have been on their pillars since 2001 and since then their numbers have increased. However, the Düsseldorf stylites have only their location at dizzy heights in common with their religious namesakes. The 10 sculptures that look down on their audience from the Düsseldorf Litfass columns are the work of the artist Christoph Pöggeler. He wanted to direct attention to the individual with his works, so he modelled them on people from everyday life, including a businessman, a photographer, a bride, a holiday maker, a father with his son and a homeless man. It could be that the Pöggeler column sculptures still get the addition of other “saints”.
