Gallery Franz Swetec
The gallery was founded at the end of 1968 as Galerie Wentdort-Swetec in Düsseldorf and has been trading as Galerie Wentdort-Swetec since 1974.
The gallery opened with an exhibition by Ernst Fuchs, followed by a double exhibition by Jiri John and H.A. Walther. A retrospective of paintings and watercolors on the occasion of Franz Radziwill's 75th birthday was shown in the third exhibition.
ZERO entered the gallery with a solo exhibition by Otto Piene in 1970. This exhibition set a striking programmatic focus for the rest of the exhibition program. Alongside Otto Piene, Heinz Mack has also been part of the gallery's permanent program for decades. Artist and gallery owner have a long friendship. In addition to the founders of ZERO: Mack, Piene, Uecker, who are permanently represented in the gallery, there are also names that are directly and indirectly connected to this movement and direction. These include Aubertin, Bartels, Calderara, Dorazio, Girke, Goepfert, Holweck, Leblanc, Luther, Spindel and de Vries. Artists such as Victor Bonato with his glass mirror deformations, Gerlinde Beck with her steles and sculptures, Ludwig Wilding with his serial, optically structural objects also fit into this line. Another highlight was the major Jiri-Kolar exhibition in 1976, which was probably the most comprehensive presentation of the Czech artist in a German gallery to date.
Together with the expansion of the gallery building, different styles are now shown in parallel.
