The highway, affectionately known as the Tausendfüßler, connected Düsseldorf's city center with the surrounding districts from 1961 to 2013. It was designed by architect Friedrich Tamms and was considered a technical masterpiece and a symbol of the economic upturn in the post-war period. In 2013, the Tausendfüßler was demolished to make way for the redesign of the Kö-Bogen and the construction of a modern tunnel system. The farewell was moving: thousands of people walked along the elevated road, many taking a piece of concrete with them as a memento. Those who can no longer remember what the Tausendfüßler looked like: In the movie “The Winners”, several police cars race across the elevated bridge. In the film “A Friend of Mine”, Jürgen Vogel and Daniel Brühl use the unusual bridge for a night drive - backwards in a yellow DAF.
