Wilhelm-Marx-Haus
In 1921 the “Bürohausgesellschaft” (office building company) was founded in Düsseldorf. Its objective and purpose: The American trend towards skyscrapers also found its way into Düsseldorf - it all started with the construction of the Wilhelm-Marx-Haus on what is today Heinrich-Heine-Allee.
Beschreibung
The contract was awarded to the architect Wilhelm Kreis, then professor at the Kunstakademie (Art academy), who later also designed the Ehrenhof. The twelve-story building and the six-storey side wings were covered to the second floor with a limestone shell and further up with red bricks. The ground floor of the iconic building now shares exclusive fashion stores, a popular coffee bar and a flower shop.
