Goethe’s portrait has been an integral part of high culture’s visual memory since the 18th century. But what does this iconic face mean to a contemporary artist?
Christoph Westermeier explores this question in his contribution. His multi-layered tableaux and collages interweave traces of Goethe’s life with the history of the Goethe Museum in Düsseldorf and reflect on the mutability of photographic and sculptural visual traditions.
