Impoverished southern belle Blanche DuBois has experienced the decline of her wealthy family and numerous strokes of fate and now seeks refuge with her younger sister in New Orleans.
In a cramped and aggressive living environment, she loses touch with reality, driven by a consuming longing and the thought of being something special. The tragic story of loss, love and violence earned the American writer Tennessee Williams the coveted Pulitzer Prize in 1948.
Based on this literary classic, John Neumeier created his version of "Endstation Sehnsucht" for the Stuttgart Ballet in 1983. As a master of literary ballet, he presents a gripping sequence of images in which he revisits the turbulent fate of one of the most interesting female characters in 20th century literature. To this day, the ballet is considered a highlight of John Neumeier's oeuvre. (Source: Deutsche Oper am Rhein)
