Event as part of the Art:walk Festival
The exhibition space sipgate shows presents Where do you draw the line? Drawings by Robert Crumb, Frank Quietly, Art Spiegelman and others.
Over the years, sipgate has developed a collection of contemporary art in Düsseldorf's harbour, which is open to everyone as part of the Art:walk festival. In addition to early positions in the collection such as the Düsseldorf photographer Andreas Gefeller and the British artist David Shrigley, there are photographic works by artists in the tradition of the Becher school such as Simone Nieweg, Tata Ronkholz, Thomas Struth and Laurenz Berges. The exhibition space sipgate shows at Gladbacher Str.46 is dedicated to the theme of drawing in the context of illustration and comics. Where do you draw the line? explores the distinction between free drawing, which would previously have been categorised as high art, and applied drawing in the field of comic books, where the exhibited works demonstrate the technical mastery and inventiveness of "comic" artists such as Frank Quitely, Robert Crumb, JP Ahonen and Art Spiegelman.
