Experience art, music and Parliament
The North Rhine-Westphalia State Parliament is opening its doors for the Art:walk Festival in the state capital, Düsseldorf. Visitors can take a seat in the plenary chamber where the MPs usually sit and experience the parliament and its impressive architecture in a special evening atmosphere.
In addition, the Landtag is exhibiting selected works from its 80-year history of collecting, showcasing diverse artistic perspectives and offering fresh insights into the interplay between art and democracy. Through works by artists including Otto Pankok, Heinrich Nauen, Walter Ophey, Christian Rohlfs, Bruno Goller, Friedel Rothmann, Shahin de Heart, Birgit Jensen and Paula Knaps Loos, the history of the collection is recounted, connections between the artworks are highlighted, and the special role of women within the collection is explored.
From 5 pm to 11 pm, there will be regular art tours and information about the work of the parliament, as well as job and career opportunities at the heart of democracy. On display in the state parliament building are works by Günther Uecker, Gerhard Richter, Jörg Immendorf, Leon Löwentraut, Johanna Wiens, Hann Trier, Anatol, Zipora Rafaelov, Ben Greber and Adrian Bedoy. The Room of Silence, designed with colour space bodies by Gotthard Graubner, will also open for the Artwalk Festival
André Kuper, President of the State Parliament, emphasises: “The State Parliament is the heart of democracy in North Rhine-Westphalia – and at the same time a place of encounter, culture and dialogue in Düsseldorf’s city life. Democracy is always strongest where it has no reservations about engaging with art. Visitors can experience this at our exhibition showcasing 80 years of art in the State Parliament. The Art:walk Festival offers the opportunity to experience the parliamentary building on the Rhine in a new way, amidst a special evening atmosphere.”
Musical accompaniment will be provided by the band Neuton with live performances in the plenary chamber. (Source: State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia)
